The region of Matarranya is relatively unknown outside of the immediate region yet it offers some of the most varied and historic countryside to be found in Spain. Tucked away in the north east corner of the community of the Aragon state of Spain it offers ancient mountain landscapes of the “Puertos de Beceite” open farm landscapes and rolling countryside of ancient olive groves. Nestling in this fine region are numerous attractive and historic villages from the region centre of Valderobbres to Calaceite and Torre del Compte.
This variety of landscapes offers a number of options for walking holidays, from moderate independent walking tours to more strenuous tours of the Estels del Sud of the Puertos de Beceite.
Independent walking holidays
Self guided walking holidays with flexible starting dates
1. Walk the Matarranya, 7 nights /8 days
- 70 kilometer linear walk over 5 stages. This is class as a grade 2 moderate holiday.
- The holiday commences in Calaceite and finishes in La Fresneda.
Price: - 615 Euros per person, for a minimum of 2 people.
The walking holiday includes: 6 nights’ accommodation in hotels with dinner bed and breakfast in a double/twin room, route information and documentation, and luggage transfers between hotels.
2. The Route of the Three Kingdoms (“La ruta de los Tres Reinos”) 7 nights/8 days
This linear route takes you to the high points of the region and walks through the territory of 3 different regions of Spain; Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia.
- 106 kms over 6 stages. This is a grade 3 strenuous walking holiday
- Commencing in Pauls and finishing in Morella.
Price:- 580 Euros per person , for a minimum of 2 people.
This walking holiday includes: 7 nights’ accommodation in small country hotels (hostals)/guest houses and mountain huts with breakfast and dinner included, route information and documentation, and luggage transfers between hotels.
3. The Estels del Sud circular walk. 6 nights/ 7 days
Discover the dramatic landscapes of the Puertos de Beceite
- 100 kms over 5 stages. This is a grade 3 strenuous walking holiday.
- Commences and terminates from Pauls
Price:- 400 Euros per person , for a minimum of 2 people
The walking holiday includes 6 nights’ accommodation in small country hotels (Hostals), guest houses and mountain huts (refugios) with dinner and breakfast, route information and documentation, and luggage transfers between hotels.
4. Beceite and its surroundings. 5 nights/ 6 days
Discover Beceite and its surroundings with dramatic landscapes and gorges carved out by the River Matarranya. A single base holiday. Based at the comfortable and welcoming Hotel La Fabrica del Solfa in Beceite. Excellent accommodation and food and a great welcome.
Price:- 499 Euros per person , minimum of 2 people
This walking holiday includes; 5 nights’ accommodation in the hotel with dinner and breakfast, route information and transfers to and from walks as required.

A guided walking tour of the Beceite region visiting the sources of the Rivers Matarranya and Ulldemoand the surrounding gorges and mountains. Based at the comfortable Hotel La Fabrica del Solfa in Beceite.

The holiday includes 5 nights with dinner and breakfast at the Hotel, a dedicated local guide for 5 days walks. Walks are between 5 and 6 hours walking time and are a mixc of moderate and strenuous.
